Allyson Longmuir
A Bit About Me
East Van Blooms was born from a love of fresh cut flowers and the desire to grow them locally in my urban environment, East Vancouver, British Columbia. My love of flowers likely began in my mum and dad’s rose garden. The summer colours and scent were so captivating I was always snipping the best blooms and bringing them in the house.
Me, Allyson, loving the harvest.
When you buy fresh cut flowers from East Van Blooms, you’re supporting a venture that belongs to a larger ecosystem. East Van is a community inside a city. With a long history of arts, culture and diversity, it doesn’t matter if I am biking down an alleyway, having a beer on a patio or hanging out on a friend’s front porch, the sense of community is strong in East Van.
Working with community members that let me grow unique cut flowers in their sunny garden beds allows me to increase the appreciation of sustainable, locally-grown flowers and add to the colour and resourcefulness of this community in my own small way.
a few of my favourite things…
Arranging some of my backyard blooms in my favourite enamel pitcher. Jelly, the cat, is a poser.
Educated as a biologist, I have a passion for natural systems and the beauty of science. I also love “makers” (so many in East Van), roller skating, the desert (more flowers than you think!), and dancing with my friends.
I love astrantia. I could stare at their delicate, intricate structure for days. I am trying to grow these from seed right now, apparently a tough task. Wish me luck!!
Every city girl should have a good pair of boots to get muddy.
